15 years!

Today marks 15 years of being a legal business! I was going through old pictures, trying to decide which ones to share and I ended up going down the rabbit hole of old negatives from my college days and my old college portfolios. It’s amazing to see how far I have come not only in my photography skills, but in my attitude about photography. I remember being so mad if a professor had anything negative to say about what I turned in, but looking back at it now – they should have failed me for some of that stuff I was trying to pass off as art/photography. Going through them all made me notice that my “personal” photography has got less and less. I don’t know if it’s because I’m too busy making memories for my clients or if it’s because I have my cell phone so readily available to get a quick snapshot, but I noticed SO much randomness looking through my negatives – and I loved it! It was everything from our house being built to my daughter learning how to write her name when she was little. It made me realize I need to document my own life more again. I’m very big on “preaching” that one day photographs are all we will have – and it has hit home to me more than ever since my daddy passed away. Looking through those negatives was like watching a home movie in my head – they brought back so many memories – like relieving the day all over again! I could remember the smallest details that at the time didn’t even mean anything or matter, but now, it’s all that I have left. I had already decided after attending Imaging USA that I would start a personal project (more to come on that later). After going through all those negatives and those memories – I’m also “promising” myself that I’m going to start documenting things better again!

I’m so thankful for everyone who has stuck with me this past 15 years and I look forward to seeing what the next 15 holds! It still amazes me everyday the people I get to meet and the experiences I get to have being a professional photographer. I really do have the coolest job!

In celebration of 15 years I am doing a never done before special! Click here to get the details!

Click on each of the images to see my descriptions - these were all from my college portfolios from Calhoun Community College and Athens State University. They are all in Black & White because I had developed them myself (and color is harder, ha!)

I don't remember why I took so many pictures of homeless people!

I do like this one of a Civil War reenactment

One of my portraits for my portfolio

I was so proud of myself for telling her to swing from that pole. I thought I was a fashion photographer in the making. A little cropping and a change in F-stops would have improved it instantly!

Reflective

This one was for a reflective assignment

This one was for a symmetry assignment. I thought I was clever using twins.

This was the Fielder's Convention. If you're not local to the area - it's a huge convention that people from all over the US come and play instruments (mainly fiddles) - so I just walked around asking some people if I could take their picture

I thought I had made it big time once I'd learned to do multiple exposures!
