Playing in the Studio

I had bought a Tiger backdrop because our local school is Ardmore Tigers. I've photographed a senior with it, but I had the idea of photographing someone who played sports. I asked my friend Brandi if her son Luke could help me out. I had an idea in my head of smoke coming from behind him. I ordered a smoke machine off of Amazon. I had never used a smoke machine before, so I set it up the day before Luke was supposed to come. Here was the results and my thoughts...

You have to shoot fast - if I could do it over again I would try to find one that allows you to control the amount of smoke that comes out. The smoke does look really cool once it starts coming out, but once it gets going it's too much and just looks like the place is on fire :) It's hard to focus (the camera) once the smoke gets to be too much. In the end, the smoke machine was fun, and I do love the images we made, but Photoshop is probably easier and better for my lungs and the environment. Always keep learning!
